Privacy Policy
This privacy policy explains how our website collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website
Who we are
Our website address is: https://infosecpaper.com.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored in your browser, generated by the platform and services we use to personalize your web experience, that remember user-specific information like the web browser.
You can explore more about what cookies are here.
Here’s what you should know about the cookies on our site:
- Form-related cookies: If you leave a comment on our site or contact us through our contact form, you may opt to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment or fill up the form. These cookies will last for one year.
- Advertisement cookies: A third-party service, Google AdSense, is an advertisement network that uses cookies to serve relevant ads. You can learn more about it, and choose to opt out of it by visiting Google’s Advertising policy.
You can control/block cookies manually by referring to some help pages of the web browser you use:
For managing advertising cookies and opting out, you can refer to portals like:
- Network Advertising Initiative
- Digital Advertising Alliance
- European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web analytics and Simple Analytics to view information on website visitors and website performance. Both of them do not collect any visitor’s data.
The reasoning behind using two services is to have some accurate metrics (considering numerous users block all the trackers, so it’s tough for us to know how many readers visit us, and if we should continue our work).
Both the services provide metrics like page views, visitor stats, region, device type, browser, OS, referral source, and more without tracking the users. It does not use any client-side state, like cookies or localStorage, to track users. Furthermore, they do not “fingerprint” individuals via their IP address, User Agent string, or any other data to display analytics.
Content Delivery Network (CDN)
We use the CDN by Cloudflare to serve you the webpage and assets like images/scripts as quickly as possible. The CDN helps us boost the performance of the website, keep the website secure, and make your web page experience better.
We rely on the Google AdSense network, as a third-party service, to serve ads, helping us generate revenue.
They might collect personalized information to serve relevant ads. You can learn more about it and opt-out through Google’s ad policy.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Third-Party Links
While we ensure we do not link to malicious links that compromise your personal information, we have no control over the privacy practices of external sites on our web pages.
Hence, we recommend you read the privacy policies of the websites you visit.
Newsletter Subscription
We use an in-house newsletter system to collect and send emails to our subscribers. We do not share the email addresses with any third-party. The list is stored within our website’s server.
If you unsubscribe, the email will be removed from our list.
Who do we share your data with
Do note that we do not sell your data directly. However, we utilize third-party services to analyze the readers, make revenue, and improve the site. Some of those services might collect information about your visit to our website, including your IP address:
- Google AdSense (Privacy Policy) — The advertisement network
- Wordfence Security (Privacy Policy) — A security system for the back-end
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
How we protect your data
For starters, we utilize an SSL certificate to secure a connection to our website. We make sure that no content on our site is being manipulated by a middleman (and you’re being securely connected to our website).
We enforce common security measures to prevent our website from getting compromised.
